FAQs
Fingerprinting
Why do I need to have fingerprints?
It depends on the type of volunteering opportunity you want with AACY. If you are looking at opportunities that relate to working with our youth one-on-one or transportation, you MUST have your fingerprints done! If you want to do one-time events, office support or volunteering opportunities not related to working with our youth, you do not need to have your fingerprints done ! However, note that we will still have a background check conducted. Large group events where our youth are with parents/guardians or with a CYP staff, do not require fingerprints.
I'm interested in getting fingerprinted! What do I do if I've never had my fingerprints done?
After filling out the volunteer application, you must come to our office and receive a card with directions on information necessary for fingerprinting. You will fill out what is needed on the card, bring it with you to a sheriff's office or other facility that processes fingerprinting and bring it back to AACY. Once you bring it back, we fill out our necessary information and send it off to be processed.
You will be notified when we receive a report back.
After fingerprinting, can I start working with youth?
After we send off your fingerprints, we run a background check as well . If you have already had your fingerprints processed, we do not conduct another background check; your previous fingerprints supercedes the background check. Once both have come back and have been reviewed, we allow you to work with our youth.
Only an hour or two of your time can change a person's life!
